L.  Mail private school applications in November or early December. 

Early decision applications are due usually Nov 1.

S.  Mail private school admission applications, Most are due around January 1.  Make copies of applications. 

  

T.  Mail housing applications as directed by your college. Watch deadlines. 

 

U.  Mail scholarship applications 

Mail EOP applications for CSU’s. 

Check for early application dates to impacted programs at community colleges and CSU’s 

 

V.  Continue to visit during the holidays. 

 

W.  Continue to attend college representatives on campus.

 

X. The only way to determine if you are eligible for financial aid is to subject the Free Application for Federal Student Aid or FAFSA.  It is required for Federal grants and loans, Cal grants and campus based financial aid programs.

Submit this financial aid form as soon as possible after January 1st.  but no later than March 1.  Early applicants stand the best chance of receiving financial aid.  

Every senior is encouraged to submit the FAFSA immediately.

 

February 

 

Y.  All ELD students planning to attend community college must register this month

April 

 

Z.  All four year colleges and universities will inform you if you have been accepted, or not accepted, no later than April 15th.

  

May 

 

May 1st is the official reply date for private colleges, UC’s and CSU’s.  A deposit must be sent to schools you accept.

 

 

Checklist for Four-Year and Two-year College Bound Seniors

 

Goal:   By September you should have completed at least one round of testing, have a preliminary list of colleges to which you will apply, a draft of your college essays and personal statement, and penciled copies of any private college applications. 

 

September/October 

 

A.  If not taken previously, register for October SAT Reasoning, and/or if required, the November SAT Subject Tests.  The December test is the last test date accepted by UC’s and most private schools.  October is the last SAT Reasoning or ACT test date to be accepted by impacted CSU’s  

 

B. Request the College Board to send your SAT Reasoning, ACT and SAT Subject Tests scores to the colleges of your choice.  You receive 4 free score reports at the time of registration. 

 

C.  Compare your transcript with a copy of the UC/State University A-G Course list online.  

 

D.  Continue to edit your essays.  Ask your English teacher and parents to review.  

 

E.  Request admission applications from private schools.  Some are due as early as December, with a few due much sooner. 

 

F.  Request and review college publications regarding majors, programs, campus life, graduate follow-up studies, housing and financial aid. 

 

G.  Attend college representative meetings scheduled by the counseling office and in the bay area. 

 

H.  Check the internet for scholarship and financial aid information. 

 

I.  Prepare and make copies of your Personal Profile (including your activities, awards, recognitions, work experience, volunteer work, etc.) for teacher recommendations  

Visit campuses; attend open house programs offered by colleges.

J.  Review September/October checklist for items that will continue into November. 

Prepare your UC and CSU applications and make copies for your files.
